Be insured when you travel
A good bike trip can't do without a good trip and cancellation insurance. Fietsavontuur strongly recommends to contact your insurance company to get the right insurance during your trip.
Travel insurance
Travel Insurance is insurance that is intended to cover loss and theft of luggage. Also your bike is part of your luggage. Please check if the insurance covers your bike completely. Sometimes it is possible to pay extra to raise the amount your bike is covered for. Also medical expanses can be insured. Check with your medical insurance if it also covers your international trips. Medical costs vary widely between countries. Normally your international expanses are not covered so it is wise that your travel insurance also has a medical component... A travel insurance starts as soon as you start your trip - and can therefor be bought until one day before you start travelling. If you travel more times per year it is often cheaper to buy a continuous insurance instead of a temporary one that only covers the exact duration of a trip.
Cancellation Insurance
Cancellation cover applies if you have booked a trip to take place within the policy period, but you are forced to delay or cancel your travel plans because of one of changes in circumstances, which are beyond your control, and of which you were unaware at the time you booked the trip. Cancellation cover may vary but a typical example is an unforeseen illness, injury or death of you, a close relative or any person with whom you have arranged to travel or stay during the trip. The insurance will then return (part of) your travel sum. Because a cancellation insurance starts as soon as you've booked your bike trip, you have to buy this insurance within a couple of days after your booking.
