Norway, celebrating 10 years CyclingCols

fietsavontuur.net > trips > Norway
In 2011 CyclingCols is 10 years online. To celebrate this, we will organise a trip in Norway. Norway is a true paradise for athletes that don't mind the cold weather. The country has great nature, rocky landscape, varied countryside, glaciers, waterfalls, empty fields and long summer days. The almost endless coastline with lonely bays, countless fjords and islands is stunning. Are you curious about the beauty of this Skandinavian country, than join us on this special trip. For our comfort we don't camp but sleep 'with a roof above our head'.
Many cyclists think about gravel roads, riding along endless fjords, rainy days and the tour Trondheim - Oslo (560 km) when they think about Norway. That this country offers challenging stages for the well trained cyclist is only noticed recently. The yearly organised VikingTour is becoming more and more popular and also on internet you discover messages from cyclists that are very enthusiastic about Norway. This encouraged Firstwater and CyclingCols to develop a new bike trip in the center and south of Norway. After studying the maps thoroughly we have selected all challenging climbs and composed a roundtrip of 1800km. Of course we included the Trollstigveien (800hm in 11km), Norways most wellknown climb. But equally challenging are Lysefjordsveien (850hm, in 9km), Skjerdalsvegen (1300hm in 16km), Jotunheimen (literally meaning: home of the giants, 1300hm in 19km) and Dalsnibba (1000hm in 14km). Although all these summits are below 2000m, the rough and empty landscape gives you a complete different feeling. It's even possible that we come across some winters' snow at the highest mountain on this trip, at 1450m. Besides the climbing you can also enjoy the scenery with lots of lakes ("vatnet") and fjords like Lysefjord, Sorfjord and the majestic Sognefjord. Due to several tunnels we strongly advise you to carry lights on your bike. On one of the days off you can visit the beautiful city of Bergen by train. The trip starts and ends in Stavanger, easy to reach by either plane or car.
